Privacy Policy — Brew Planner

Last updated: 10 July 2026

Brew Planner (“the App”, “we”, “us”) is a native iOS and iPadOS application for planning and logging home brewing of beer, wine, cider, and spirits. This policy explains what data the App handles, why, and the choices you have. We designed the App to keep your recipes and brews on your own devices and in your own iCloud account, and to collect only the minimum diagnostics and analytics needed to keep the App stable and improve it.

1. Data you create stays with you

Your recipes, brew sessions, measurements, tasting notes, ratings, and photos are stored locally on your device. If iCloud is enabled on your device, this content is synced across your devices through Apple’s CloudKit using your private iCloud database. This data lives in your personal iCloud account under Apple’s control — we never receive it, cannot read it, and do not store it on any server of ours. Its handling is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy.

Optional backups (.sbrew files and the “Brew Planner” folder in iCloud Drive) are likewise written to your own iCloud Drive or shared by you manually. We have no access to them.

2. Diagnostics and analytics we do collect

To keep the App reliable and understand which features are used, the App includes two third-party SDKs. The data below is the only data transmitted off your device to parties other than Apple:

ProviderPurposeData collected
Sentry (self-hosted crash & performance monitoring) Detect and diagnose crashes and performance issues Crash reports, performance/diagnostic data, device model, OS version, app version, and anonymous in-app action names (e.g. “session.finish”). No personal profile data is attached.
AppMetrica (product analytics) Understand usage — app sessions, active users, and which features are used App sessions, aggregate usage events, a device identifier generated by the SDK, device model, and OS version.

3. What we do not do

4. Notifications

The App can schedule local notifications (for example, brewing-phase timers and fermentation reminders) if you grant permission. These are generated on your device and are not sent to us.

5. International data transfers

Analytics data processed by AppMetrica may be stored and processed on the provider’s servers, which may be located outside your country, including outside the European Economic Area. Crash and performance data is processed on our self-hosted Sentry instance. By using the App you understand that this data may be transferred and processed as described here.

6. Data retention

Diagnostic and analytics data is retained only as long as needed for stability monitoring and product analytics, after which it is deleted or aggregated. Content you create is retained in your iCloud account until you delete it from the App or from iCloud.

7. Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction (including the EU/EEA under the GDPR), you may have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of personal data, and to object to certain processing. Because the App does not collect data that identifies you personally, we are generally unable to link diagnostic or analytics data to an individual. You can stop all further diagnostics and analytics collection at any time by deleting the App, and you can delete your content by removing it in the App or in iCloud. To exercise any right or ask a question, contact us below.

8. Children

The App concerns the production of alcoholic beverages and is not directed to children. It is intended for users of legal drinking age in their jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above.
